This past week, I had the opportunity to have a small part of my story relating to prescription opiate addiction appear in The Globe & Mail. As usual, the opinions and comments I've received in response to the article "Number of opioid drug prescriptions in Canada skyrocketing" have been all over the map; from amazingly supportive, to ignorant and misinformed. This is certainly nothing new or unexpected for me, as it unfortunately still comes with the territory. Regardless, I wanted to take the time to touch on a few things that were not mentioned in The Globe & Mail article, as well as address some of the surrounding discussion.
If you pick yourself up a copy of today's (August 19th, 2015) print of The Globe & Mail, or visit their website, you might just stumble across a recognizable face in the National Section!
Hint: IT'S ME!
Recently, it doesn't seem that I can go more than a day or so without another 'Fentanyl-themed' article in the daily news/media. While on one hand, it's great that the issues surrounding Fentanyl and opiate use are being recognized and discussed more frequently in the mainstream media. On the other hand, it signifies that we now have a very big issue on our hands. When it comes to reducing the potentially deadly effects associated with Fentanyl use, reporting on the issue only goes so far. Action needs to be taken, immediately.
As you may have noticed, I've been somewhat less active than usual when it comes to blog posts. Life has been, well, life. This summer has thrown plenty of harsh curve-balls my way, and although I might not be posting as often, I'm certainly still swinging. However, it isn't all bad. This summer has also brought about some great things as well. I thought I'd take the time to give you all a bit of an update as to what I've been up to, where I'm at, and where I'm headed!
