Since today is the first International Harm Reduction Day, I decided to take a quick trip down to the local Needle Exchange to pick up a slew of items for a little impromptu harm reduction themed 'show and tell'!
Today was my first time back in the Needle Exchange in quite some time! I must admit, it was an interesting experience returning now that I am no longer using.
I was welcomed in again with open arms, and then immediately given the opportunity to head back to the supply room to gather all the necessities. All of these items were completely free of charge, and given anonymously to anyone who requests them.
First up... Needles!
And plenty of them! Clients are free to take as many as they need, whether that be a strip of 5 or a box of 100. Various sizes are also available (1ml & 3ml Syringes, and several different gauged needle tips).
Next, the Supplies!
Once again, there are plenty of different items available. Photographed above are 1ml & 3ml Syringes and attachable needle tips, tourniquet, cooker, alcohol prep pads, sterile water for injection and sterile cotton filters. All of the necessities!
Also available are a wide variety of condoms (flavoured and non), as well as snort kits and Vitamin C packs.
Don't forget to grab a sharps container for safe and proper disposal! If you are using, ensure you are being responsible.
All of these items are imperative for safe drug use and sex. Do not be afraid to take advantage of these services - they could save your life.
